What if it Was Your Spouse?

Blogger Tim Challies asks this awkward question and makes the case that we would not tolerate it for a moment if it was our husband or wife engaging in the now obligatory sex scene(s) in most of today's Hollywood movies, and by extension, neither should we watch such films.

For one thing, it's no surprise why so many Hollywood marriages do not last.  The pressure to participate in such scenes is intense, and can often make the difference in terms of getting a part (and a paycheque) or not.

I can't think of a single circumstance where a scene involving nudity or simulated sex is necessary. While relating  such an incident may be integral to the telling of the story, it could easily be done by implying an incident happened, which is often more powerful than showing everything acted out.
Sex on the silver screen is , sorry to say, nothing more than gratuitous titillation, aimed at getting mostly young males to buy tickets. That being said, the genre that includes 50 Shades, or other "chick flicks" use such scenes on a more relational level to hook many women in. While the kind of porn that appeals to women is different than what men like, it is by no means less pernicious.
Jim Caviezel and Eduardo Verastigui will not participate in such scenes, nor will they kiss a woman on the lips on film either.
